There has been a museum at Hartland Quay for the past 20 years and it recently been extended. It details some amazing artefacts and reports of shipwrecks around the local area.
The quay was originally built in the late 16th century but was swept away in 1887 and the museum shows how the quay worked in days gone by and has some salvage from the ships that have gone down on our dramatic coast.
- Displays of photographs, paintings, models, documents and relics tell the stories of:
- Hartland Quay's 400 year History
- Life-saving and local shipwrecks
- Coastal trades and industries
- Smuggling
- The geology and natural history of this coast
- Fishing
- Hartland Point Lighthouse
- Wartime Wellington Bomber No. Z8721
which crashed into the cliffs in 1942.
Opening hours: Easter week - October half term - 11.00am - 5.00pm. There is an small admission charge to cover running and development costs of this independent museum.
